Or it fell out of my purse . . . Or I got pickpocketed . . . But whatever, one minute it was there and the next it was not.
I still blame the swans.
It seems funny to write this in blistering heat of Southern France, but here it goes, another chapter in me trying to catch up on blog posts about my travels.
Three months ago, we had a 4 day spring break from training. Marshall and I hopped on a plane to Prague, Czech Republic to visit his cousin Nate who is in med school there. We had a blast seeing the local sights and taking a day trip to Kutna Hora. Nate and his friends were very fun to talk to and share drinks with. We had a couple of rousing games of Scrabble and even saw a show.
Prague is a cool city that I would love to visit again. There are many nice parks, interesting architecture and lots of political graffiti.
The pivo (beer) is quite tasty, of course. On one of our nights in Prague, Nate and another friend of his took us to a crazy cavernous underground bar. Underground meaning literally underneath the current level of the street, not some sort of secret, clandestine location. Apparently the street/ground level of Prague used to be several meters lower, then due to flood and other destructive forces, the city gained a few meters of altitude. New buildings were built right on top of the ruins of the old buildings. Some underground rooms are still intact. This particular bar has several winding underground levels and is impressively large.
The green space in Prague is refreshing. We visited several parks, some with awesome panoramic views of the city, some with fun trees to climb, and some to just lay in the shade and relax.
Our day trip to the former mining town of Kutna Hora was simple and relaxing. We did have to wander for quite a while to find a place to eat, but I blame our lack of map and easily-distractable natures more than the town itself.
Lastly, I will leave you with some shots of the public art/ architecture/ decor that adorns the lovely city of Prague.
I took a bunch more photos, of course. Prague was a wonderful place to visit and I hope to go back some day. See more photos on my flickr site, here.
